Heating and Air Conditioning

Students of this technology study heating and air conditioning theory and the design and construction of the equipment. They also learn the basics of installation, maintenance and repair.
Heating and air conditioning mechanics are skilled workers who install, maintain and repair heating and air conditioning systems which control the temperature and humidity of air inside buildings. The graduate of this technology may find employment as a heating and air conditioning specialist, furnace or heating equipment installer, oil burner mechanic, heat pump installer/ mechanic, or as someone working for an architect or engineer in heating and air conditioning design and installation.
Heating and air conditioning mechanics should have a mechanical aptitude and should be in good physical condition because workers sometimes have to lift and move heavy equipment.
The associate degree program requires six quarters of full-time study. Classes are offered in both day and evening sequences. The certificate program requires four quarters of full-time study. If certificate students should decide to continue their education, certificate courses are applicable toward the associate degree program.

The following is a quarterly breakdown of courses needed to complete both the certificate and associate degree program in heating and air conditioning.
