Continuing Education Information

To increase career opportunities, graduates with an HVAC certificate can pursue a 2-year associate's degree. If the degree is pursued at the same institution, credits from a certificate program can often be transferred to the associate's degree program. An associate's degree in HVAC is sufficient for most heating and cooling jobs.
In addition to this degree, graduates can seek apprenticeships with experienced HVAC technicians. Several organizations that offer apprenticeships are the Air-Conditioning Contractors of America, the Mechanical Contractors Association of America and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association. With an apprenticeship, candidates receive on-the-job training that makes the transition to full-time employment much easier. Apprenticeship programs can last up to five years and may include continuing education courses on advanced HVAC concepts.
